Should A Christian Go To Counseling or Coaching Sessions?

As a Christian, it can be difficult to admit when we need help, especially when it comes to your mental and emotional health. Many have often received the message that they just need to only share their issues with Jesus. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Bible actually calls believers to counsel one another. See Romans 15:14 & Colossians 3:16 where it tells us to teach, admonish, and instruct one another. Proverbs 15:22 clearly says: "Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; take good counsel and watch them succeed."

Meeting with a Christian counselor or coach allows you to meet with someone specifically trained to help you in challenging times.

Throughout the Bible you can find many examples of people who loved and knew God that received words of wisdom and encouragement from others. Moses from his father-in-law. David from Jonathan. In fact, David not only had his mighty men, but his own trusted advisors to help him. Timothy listening to Paul's instructions. The list goes on and on.

Seeking out counseling or coaching can be one of the best decisions you can make for yourself and your relationship with God. It can actually take your faith and understanding to new heights. We can also receive great comfort when we open up. As it says in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."

It's important to remember that God wants us to take care of our mental and emotional well-being. In fact, one of the most important commandments in the Bible is to "love your neighbor as yourself" (Mark 12:31). This includes taking care of our own mental and emotional well-being, so that we can better love and serve others.

One of the biggest benefits of counseling and coaching is that it allows you to work through your thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

You can receive truth from the Bible, a deeper understanding, relevant guidance, and immense support . You can also understand your thoughts and feelings in new ways that you did not realize on your own.

It's also important to note that counseling and coaching are not a sign of weakness. In fact, it takes a lot of strength and courage to admit that you need help and to seek it out. Many successful and strong individuals, including Christians, seek out counseling and coaching to help them navigate difficult times and to improve their mental and emotional well-being.

Another benefit of counseling and coaching is that it can help you to strengthen your relationship with God. A counselor or coach can help you to understand how your faith and beliefs may be impacting your thoughts and feelings, and how you can use your faith to help you overcome your struggles. Additionally, they can help you to identify and work through any spiritual struggles you may be experiencing.

Counseling and coaching can be especially helpful for those who are struggling with anxiety. A counselor or coach can provide practical tools and strategies for managing anxiety, as well as offer a safe space to process your thoughts and feelings. Additionally, they can help you to identify any underlying issues that may be contributing to your anxiety and provide guidance on how to address them.

In conclusion, counseling and coaching can be incredibly beneficial for Christians who are struggling with relationships, anxiety, or other life issues. It's important to remember that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of strength. By working through your thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-judgmental environment, you can gain a better understanding of yourself and your relationship with God. It's a powerful step towards healing and growth.
